As its name implies, the Cotton Patch Gold Mine began its production following the discovery of a large vein of gold near a cotton patch in the 1860s. Today, guests are encouraged to visit the campground and old-fashioned general store, along with the opportunity to pan for gold themselves. Almost a sure bet that gold will turn up, visitors are allowed to keep whatever they find. The Cotton Patch Gold Mine is located near New London north of Albemarle.
